Cockroaches: Nasty critters – perhaps the most despised of all pests that plague our homes and businesses. There are many reasons we loathe them, but a primary factor is they are so difficult to get rid of once they infest your property.
Like other pests, cockroaches primarily are seeking water and food when they arrive at your place. (And as cooler weather approaches, virtually all pests tend to seek warmer homes.) Here are some tips to keep them out of your home or business:
1 Always dry any standing water around tubs, sinks, and toilets.
2 Clean – and we mean really clean — your kitchen. Remove food remnants around the stove, microwave, refrigerator, and other areas where food is stored or prepared.
3 Use the vacuum to reach crumbs and such from corners and around cabinet bases.
4 Wipe down the insides of all cabinets and drawers with soap and water.
5 Clean and put away your dirty dishes immediately after eating – every time.
To much the homeowner’s demise, cockroaches can live for a month without food (a week without water), survive freezing temperatures, and even live for a week without a head. These hearty creatures also can squeeze through tiny spaces or hitch a ride in bags – and just about anything else – to get into your home or business with ease.
It is important to rid your property of cockroaches as quickly as possible for health reasons. Not only can they cause allergic reactions and trigger asthma attacks, particularly in children, they also can spread more than 30 bacteria, including E. coli and Salmonella. If you’re struggling to rid your home of these pests, you should contact a professional roach removal technician for cockroach treatment.
