While The Bug Man, Inc., is an expert on all types of pest control, in this article we’re going to focus on three kinds of wildlife — and the havoc they wreak once they get inside your home. Specifically, we want you to know why it’s usually best to leave bat, raccoon and skunk removal to us.
Bat Removal
- If bats are nesting in your attic or other area of your home, your family’s health could be at risk. They can transmit rabies and respiratory diseases. Bites can be difficult to detect and may not cause a person to wake from a sound sleep. If you’re bitten, see a physician.
- If bat droppings have accumulated, don’t stir up or breathe the dust. Fungal spores in bat droppings may cause diseases like histoplasmosis, which causes flu-like symptoms.
Raccoon Removal
- Raccoons often find bedding material by shredding roof or wall paper, vent ducts and insulation around pipes. They’ll even tear apart cooling systems, vents, fans and wood beams — and sometimes scratch and chew on electrical wires.
- They urinate and defecate everywhere, making heavily-contaminated areas in your home unsanitary and unsafe. Droppings are host to a number of diseases, including raccoon roundworm. Rabies is the most common disease associated with raccoons.
Skunk Removal
- Obviously, the odor is one of the first — and worst — indications that a skunk has invaded. Once it’s inside, there’s always the risk of getting sprayed yourself. Skunks are very accurate, and a direct hit even can send the victim into shock.
- They’re primary carriers of rabies and can also carry distemper, which can be deadly to dogs. Skunks also carry many other pests, including ticks, fleas and mites. While they’re generally passive, they’ll attack if threatened. And skunks won’t hesitate to bite, scratch and/or spray.
